The Night Kite Revival
When: October 3rd, Sunday
What time: 7:30-9:30
Where: Naperville North High School
The Night Kite Revival's circus train rolls out on a national tour like none other, ushering the scalpels out of your bounce castles and the funnel cakes back to your senses. Expect wide open eyes, cannonball surprises, and the belly laughs returned to your balloon animal faces. With uproarious crowd participation, unwavering honesty, human condition truth activism, and respect for the lives we lead, the Night Kite Revival charg...es the hearts of all they meet.
Come see for yourself when Derrick Brown, Anis Mojgani, and Buddy Wakefield along with other amazing poets come to the suburbs on Sunday, October 3rd.
Here's some background on these amazing gentlemen:
Derrick Brown was a former paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, and the opening act for Cold War Kids and The Flaming Lips. He performed on the Tonight Show, and is owner of Write Bloody Publishing.
New Orleans resident Anis Mojgani, is a two time National Poetry Slam winner. He has performed on HBO's Def Poetry Jam, NPR, and alongside artists Jill Scott, Sage Francis, and M-1 of Dead Prez.
Buddy Wakefield is a Two time Individual World Poetry Slam Champion (2004,2005), featured on NPR, the BBC, CBC, HBO's Def Poetry Jam, and treated to nightly standing O's as the opening artist on tour with both Ani DiFranco and Sage Francis.
Together they form the Night Kite Revival and they will change your lives!
So be on hand to welcome them and hear performances by Teen Writers and Artist Project members Qoc'avib Revolorio, Toussaint Egan, Ashley Gauger, Emily Wittke, Kitty Mobley, Dria Cross and Holly Gleason. As well as a special performance of "The Sound of Poetry in Motion" by TWAAP Dance mentor and Chicago tap icon Reggio Mclaughlin and Jeremy Fatima.
Tickets are $10-15 and are available through @Diana Zwinak or nightkite.eventbrite.com
Or (if you really wanna wait that long, but I wouldn't) you can get them at the door the night of the event.

Louder Than A Bomb
Louder Than A Bomb is a Chicago Youth Poetry Festival that was started in 2001 by Chicago native Kevin Coval. This event brings students from all over to perform their poetry in a competitive, yet welcoming environment. Poetry isn't about awards, numbers, or the spirit of competition. Poetry is about connecting back to our roots of the spoken word and finding love for poetry, performance and the chance to have your stories heard. This goes back to the festivals of the Ancient Greeks and Dionysus. I fully support what Kevin Coval is doing and I hope this catches on all over the world. The link below gives a sneak preview to what the festival, and the documentary on the festival, looks like.
